Calmness in Chaos

Most of the time we are busy thinking. Even when we are just ‘resting’. Most people consider the option of doing nothing to be boring at best and frightening at worst. Whilst it used to be normal to do nothing, it is a habit that we have lost over the years. To be busy is the new idea of success. But this train of thinking seems to be taking its toll. The amount of people dealing with depression and burn-out symptoms has never been as big. As a counter reaction we started searching for change. Psychiatric help, self-help books, and the practice of mindfulness are no longer signs of weakness but have become interesting auxiliaries. Over the past year, I have been researching how we can get rid of our restlessness. During this research, I found out that it is important to introduce moments where we stop multitasking and consciously focus on a single task. This led me to design different objects. Objects that stimulate people to introduce moments of silence into their daily lives. The objects serve as a focus object by portraying different movements. The perception of movement will lead to a hypnotic and meditative effect, that makes one forget time.
